Nick Broomfield | 2017 | USA | Cert 15 | 104 mins | English language | Documentary

WHITNEY CAN I BE ME, will premiere in the UK on June 11 at Sheffield Doc/Fest. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Nick Broomfield hosted by Sarah Jane Crawford and a live performance by Michelle John from The Voice UK who performed with Whitney Houston as a backing vocalist in 1999. Supported by the BFI, the event will be broadcast live from Sheffield Doc/Fest, to over 140 cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

From acclaimed director Nick Broomfield comes a new film about one of the greatest singers of all time. Whitney Houston was the epitome of a superstar, an “American Princess,” the most awarded female artist ever. Even though Whitney had made millions of dollars, had more consecutive number ones than The Beatles, and became recognised as having one of the greatest voice of all time, she still wasn’t free to be herself and died at just 48 years old. Made with largely never-seen-before footage and exclusive live recordings, WHITNEY CAN I BE ME tells Whitney Houston’s incredible and poignant life story with insights from those closest to her.
