Hull Independent Cinema is delighted to finally announce our April – June 2019 season of film. Taking place at Vue Cinema Hull, Hull Truck Theatre and Kardomah94, it includes the very best award-winning and critically-acclaimed new films from around the world.

The programme opens on Tuesday, 2 April with a screening of the critically acclaimed Lebanese drama CAPERNAUM from director Nadine Labaki. Other foreign language highlights this season includes the Swedish adult fairy-tale BORDER and Icelandic environmental activist comedy-drama WOMAN AT WAR. We’ve also got Cannes 2018 winners Belgian LGBT coming of age drama GIRL and the feel-good Italian drama HAPPY AS LAZZARO.

We’re thrilled to welcome Steve Sullivan to Hull to present his film BEING FRANK: THE CHRIS SIEVEY STORY, the official documentary about maverick Manchester comedian Frank Sidebottom. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

We’re highlighting some of the best independent work from across the world including Maggie Gyllenhaal’s THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER, the LA-based mystery UNDER THE SILVER LAKE starring Andrew Garfield, Best Acting Oscar nominee AT ETERNITY’S GATE starring Willem Defoe as artist Vincent Van Gogh, and VOX LUX starring Natalie Portman as a global pop star with music by Sia. We’re supporting first-time directors/screenwriters with Jonah Hill’s MID90s where he explores coming of age in 90s LA’s skateboarding culture, and comedian Bo Burnham’s dramedy EIGHTH GRADE following a pre-teen girl as she navigates her last week of the school year.

The way this page is set up is confusing. I’m not immediately sure which title refers to which block of texts, which image, which link….etc etc.

    • Ellie Irwin says:

Hi Issac – thanks for the feedback. We’ll consider how it can be designed better. The image for the film is first, followed below by all its related information – title, production info, trailer and synopsis. So the first image of the boy looking out the window is for Capernaum, below is all its related information. The next image of the man at the microphone is for Rudeboy and so on.

  2. Isaac says:

Thanks. Maybe a line above the image, to separate the blocks of information? Like the line above the ‘leave comment’ block.
