While on a first date together, a black man and woman are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, and the man kills the police officer in self-defence. The couple are forced to go on the run, but a video of the incident makes them a national symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain. A timely, stylish, provocative and powerful fugitive story.
An exploration of America’s social and political climate through the lens of a genre-defying love story. While on a forgettable first date together in Ohio, a black couple are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, with sudden and tragic results, when the man kills the police officer in self-defence. Terrified and in fear for their lives, the man, a retail employee, and the woman, a criminal defence lawyer, are forced to go on the run.
But the incident is captured on video and goes viral, with the couple unwittingly becoming a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people across the country. Stylish, provocative, and powerful, QUEEN & SLIM tells a gripping fugitive story steeped in timely, thoughtful subtext.
Starring Jodie Turner-Smith, Daniel Kaluuya.
Awards and Reviews

“Channels hundreds of years of systemic oppression into a blinding and beautiful work of art that feels like throwing a firecracker into a crowd.” Matthew Lucas, From the Front Row
“Tackles urgent, difficult subjects with bravery, care and adrenalised genre cool. It triumphs because it shows you the personal toll beyond the politics, and how black lives brimming with potential can still turn on one fateful moment.” Jimi Famurewa, Empire
