In the late 1800s, two lighthouse keepers find their sanity challenged by storms, strange visions of mermaids, vengeful seagulls, and too much alcohol. As the storms get worse and the ferry due to relieve them fails to appear, the men’s grip on reality steadily unravels.
In the late 1800s, a retired woodsman is sent to work on an island lighthouse for four weeks. There he encounters the lighthouse keeper, a strange and superstitious fellow, obsessed with the light. As the weeks pass the men find their sanity challenged by storms, strange visions of mermaids, vengeful seagulls, and too much alcohol. As the storms get worse and the ferry due to relieve them fails to appear, the men’s grip on reality steadily unravels.
A gripping story brilliantly filmed and led by two powerhouse performances, THE LIGHTHOUSE further establishes Robert Eggers as a filmmaker of exceptional talent.
Starring Willem Dafoe, Robert Pattinson, Valeriia Karaman.

“Very few films can make you scared and excited at the same time. Just like the lighthouse beam, this is dazzling and dangerous.” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
“A triumph of mood and vision, like the love child of Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch that knows that its actors are just a small piece of the overall composition.” Lindsay Bahr, Associated Press
