Ninety years before Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, Arthur Conan Doyle’s dinosaur adventure was brought to the big screen for the first time. Join us for an adventure across continents to the land that time forgot, featuring all your favourite dinosaurs, the terrifying ‘apeman’ and a few volcanoes for good measure. Special effects pioneer Willis O’Brien’s stop-motion animation still looks magnificent on the big screen – he started work on his masterpiece, King Kong, just a few months after the release of The Lost World. With live, improvised piano accompaniment by Jonny Best.
HIC are delighted once again to be partner with Yorkshire Silent Film Festival. This screening of THE LOST WORLD will be accompanied by a live improvised score by Jonathan Best on piano.
Starring Wallace Beery, Bessie Love and Lewis Stone
United States National Film Registry Film
“As soon as the thrilling sequences are reached, where the explorers are seen in the supposed habitat of the living dinosauri, brontosauri, allosauri and other prehistoric monsters, there is no end of excitement.” – Mordaunt Hall, New York Times
“The main attraction, is Willis H. O’Brien’s pre-King Kong stop motion monster effects.” – Kim Newman, Empire Magazine
THE LOST WORLD is rated U. Visit the BBFC website for full details (may include plot spoilers).
Hull Truck Theatre is open all day, so why not come along early to grab a drink and a snack? Doors to the screening room usually open around ten minutes before the performance starts.
