A comedy wrapped around a tragedy. It starts as a celebration and ends with blood on the floor.

THE PARTY | Sally Potter | 2017 | UK | Cert 15 | 71 mins

Janet has just been appointed to a key ministerial position in the shadow cabinet – the crowning achievement of her political career. She and her husband Bill plan to celebrate this with a few close friends. As the guests arrive at their home in London the party takes an unexpected turn when Bill suddenly makes some explosive revelations that take everyone present by surprise. Love, friendships and political convictions are soon called into question in this hilarious comedy of tragic proportions.

Starring Patricia Clarkson, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jones, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Kristin Scott Thomas, Timothy Spall

Winner, Guild Film Prize, Berlin International Film Festival
BFI London Film Festival, New Zealand International Film Festival, Melbourne Film Festival Official Selections

“Unassuming and old-fashioned funny entertainment isn’t exactly what we associate with this film-maker, but that’s what she has very satisfyingly served up here.” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

“Over 71 crisp minutes of fast-paced verbal combat, Potter tests the age-old theory that it’s all fun and games until somebody gets knocked unconscious.” – Stephen Dalton, The Hollywood Reporter

THE PARTY is rated 15. Visit the BBFC website for full details (may include plot spoilers).
